Photos shift in Publisher

R

I created a web site in MS Publisher and find that things shift, especially
photos. They are all lined up perfectly in Publisher, but when I publish
them to web view, the photos shift down the page over top of other text
instead of staying in the blank spot where they should be. I don't know what
I'm doing wrong. WYS is NOT WYG. How do I get the photos to stay where they
belong in the middle of the text?

Rainbows,
When things move down, it's usually because other components above them are
poorly sized. A common problem for beginners. It frequently happens with
undersized marquees or pictures that are too close to other elements.

With Publisher a good rule is to keep approximately 2 buttons (the little
square things at each corner and centers of a selected item) between two
elements vertically. Horizontally, you can have them touch and it's ok. There
are exceptions to that rule, namely text frames and also a few other
instances.

When several elements are too close, the cumulative effect of "pushing down
the neighbour below" can have a drastic effect.

Check that everything on your page is clear by about 2 buttons and you
should see things improve.

Also make sure that the text frame is formatted for "wrap around" click on
"Format"> "Text Frame properties" and tick the "Wrap text around" box.
Cheers and good luck.

Geoffrey,

If they are using word wrap, that is probably the problem, as Publisher does
not support it in a web document.

You do not explicitly state they you are wrapping text to an image in your
web publication, nor do you provide the version of Publisher you are using.

However my crystal ball is newly polished, it's telling me you are likely
doing a wrap text to an image in version 2002 or 2003.

In version 2002 and version 2003 text wrapping an image is not supported in
a web publication. You have to create separate content objects.

Your crystal ball seems to get polished every time you go to Redmond. All
that synergy, and getting to peek at the new versions coming must be good
for you.
