Photoshop 6.0 image is discolored when imported into Word

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Hi,

I am trying to import an image from Photoshop 6.0 (Mac Classic version) into Word in publishing layout mode. I have the image saved on my OS X desktop. When I drag the image from my desktop into the word document it appears, but it is too blue! The white does not appear to be affected, but the green is brighter and the pink is purple. This is important as the image needs to be in-keeping with the color-scheme of the rest of the document. What is causing this, and how can I correct it? It is nothing to do with snow leopard's new default gamma setting of 2.2 rather than 1.8 as I have moved it back to 1.8.

Two primary considerations:

1- No matter what Apple or anyone else tells you Do Not drag or paste photos
into any type of document if you expect to retain quality. You can get away
with it for vector graphics files & simple drawings, but raster images
usually don't survive very well. Always use the Insert> Picture method so
the receiving app has the opportunity to 'read' the file more accurately &
embed it into the document rather than having to take the watered down
translation the OS drops in.

2- Odds are your photo was saved in CMYK color mode. None of the Office apps
(PC or Mac) support CMYK so you're forcing a conversion to RGB by software
that is neither intended nor equipped to do so accurately.

There are a number of other factors that could well be involved but without
specifics about what type of 'image' it is, how it has been processed it's
hard to speculate. Color is one of the most complex, trickiest & most
deceptive aspects of graphics on a computer. If you try to visually match in
different programs while working on screen then bring the 2 together it's
going to provide less than acceptable results most of the time.

Hi CyberTaz,

Thank you very much for that information. You were absolutely right, when I used Insert > Picture it worked just fine. I honestly had no idea that it was any different to dragging and dropping!
