Physical % Complete

Hi,
I have several questions in relation to % Physical Complete and advancement
of my project.
I have several activities in a project with summary tasks. When I enter
manually the % Physical complete, The summary % is still at 0%, it is not
calculated. All my tasks are with the earned value method of % Physical
complete and I also set in the options/calculation to earned value.

Second question: I would like to compare my actual advancement with the
planned advancement. % work complete shows my actual advancement. What could
be the planned advancement? Do I have to create a new field representing this
notion? I think that the planned advancement could be represented by
BCWS/total cost.
I noticed that if I update my status date, the % complete is automatically
calculated.
If I modify the % work complete, it affects my % complete and my actual
duration, so it is like my status date is changed. How could I keep the same
% complete even if I change my % work completed?

thanks

Nathalie

In order for Physical%Complete to rollup you need to load costed resources
(at least $1./hr) and have a baseline. Set the status date under
Project/Project Information then claim your Physical%Complete

Yes, planned advancement is BCWS/BAC (total cost). Physical %COmpelte gives
you (BCWP/BAC). So the indicators you seek are SPI and CPI.
SPI is What you accomplished divided by what you wanted to accomplish in the
baseline = BCWP/BCWS. CPI is BCWP/Actual Costs and is the Cost Performance
Index.

SPI=1 means on schedule. Greater than 1 is ahead, less than 1 is behind
schedule.

Sounds like you need to back out all your progress, load costed resources
(even "Woker1 at $1/hr will work), strike a baseline, set a status date, then
re-enter your progress. You can always store the existing values and dates
in spare columns prior to clearing them out.

Jim,
thanks for your help.
I did what you described. Physical % complete was not rolling up until I
allocated a resource to the summary task without work, and then the
percentage was calculated.
What's the method of calculation of the % for the summary?

thanks

Nathalie,

Q1 : The % Physical Complete never sum up at the summary level : it is just
used to calculate the Earned Value : BCWP.
