Physical % Complete

hi

in my project, I wont to show work completed till date. as % complete and %
work complete gives the results dependent on duratin and task's work
respectively. so i am using physical % complete. i have entered the value for
subtasks for Physical % complete, but the value for the summary task is not
updatinf, it gives the 0%.

i hope my doubt is clear.
can any one help me on this issue.

Thanks in advance

karisma,

The Physical % complete is only used to bias the calculation of Earned
Value. So it will never sum up at the summary level.
Try the following in Project :
Tools / Options / Calculations / Earned Value ...and drop down the "Default
earned value method" list.

Check the following items.
1. Resources are assigned to every detail (not summary task).
2. There are costs for each of these resources on the resource sheet
3. The Earned Value method for *every* task is set to Physical%Complete
4. Set your basline and EV Method for new tasks as Gerrard said
(Tools/Options/Calculations... Earned Value)
5. Set the baseline
6. Provide a status date (Project/Project Information...)
Now enter your physical % complete.

It will provide a value for you if you have an Actual Start Date for the
tasks. You can do that by claiming either a %Complete or %WorkComplete. Or,
insert the *actual start* date column and key it there.

Physical %Complete does not graph on the Gantt Chart bars unless you change
the bar formatting to do so.
Format/Bar Styles...
Change the progress lines from "Complete Through" to "Physical% Complete" on
the right side.
