picking first three alphanumeric from one cell

i want to pick first three alphanumeric alphabets or
numbers from a cell to one cell and pick the rest may be
two or three in other cell.

If you install the code at http://www.tmehta.com/regexp/add_code.htm,
you can then use the formula
=LEFT(RegExpSubstitute(I7,"[^a-zA-Z0-9]",""),3)
where I7 contains the expression that you want to manipulate.
