Picture does not print where placed in document

Martha

Hi,
Word 2007
I have inserted a photo into a document. It shows up in the right place on
the screen and in print pre-view. But when I print the document it is not
there. I have tried moving the photo around on the page and find that it
does print but in strange places - i.e. if I place it at the right margin it
will print towards the middle of the page and up some.
I've tried creating a new document with the same dimensions and margins and
have the same problem. [Document size 5x8 index card with .25 margins]

Help?

Have you specified any text wrapping? If not, try anything other than 'in
line' and see if that helps

Keith,
Thanks for the response. I've had the photos with "square text wrapping".
I also tried putting them into a text box (without fill). The text box
prints in the correct place but no photo.
I'll try placing the photo with different types of text wrapping. . .tho' in
the final document I need the text to wrap.

Just a thought - Have you checked for an update to your printer driver since
upgrading to Office 2007?

Hi, Martha,

Does the picture show up in Print Preview? (Office button - Print - Print
Preview)

If not, then click the Options button in the Print Preview ribbon (upper
left), and click to enable Print drawings created in Word, then click OK,
and all should be well.

IMO, this is a pretty badly named option, because it covers all floating
graphics and text boxes, not just "drawings".

Hi Herb,
Yes, the pictures show up in the correct place in print preview - its only
on the printed page that it moves or doesn't show up.

Hi CyberTaz,
A great idea. . .and I did check the drivers just now and there was an
update since the last I checked. I installed it.

I tried printing. Same thing - the photo didn't print where it should.
Though this time I did my test print on a letter size piece of paper, instead
of the 5x8 index card the document is formated for. - the photo printed in
the upper left hand corner of the 8.5x11 sheet; the rest of the text printed
as it would have if I'd had the 5x8 card in the printer.

I am doing this work on my laptop that has Word 2007; it is networked to the
printer through our desktop computer that is running Word 2003 - both
computers use Windows XP.

Herb's suggestion of a PDF is probably the best interim/immediate solution
to get the current doc out, but if you're feeling adventurous;-)...

Doesn't happen to be an HP printer, by any chance? A number of them have
reportedly had problems getting comfortable with Office 2007 - hard to
believe %>} - anyway, try opening the doc on the other PC in Word 2003 &
print it from there to see if you have any better results.

Another thought - Although you set the page layout for Word to the size you
want, does the printer have a separate setting (through the driver software)
for Paper Size? You may also have to set that for the actual size of stock
you're printing to. If you haven't done so Word may think it's supposed to
be printing a 5x8 card on an 8.5x11 sheet of paper.

Sorry about the empty post -- had to finish the registration, etc...
I have the same problem, and yes, I do have an HP printer. Just got NEW HP
computer with Vista, which has a trial of Word 2007 - am waiting for the
hardcopy to install all of Office 2007. Meanwhile, am trying to learn...
I made up a simple cover page, also 5x8 with clipart. Everything prints ok
except the picture. Will try to print it on the old computer, with old Word
2000, see what happens. Will post results when I have them. Meanwhile, any
other suggestions would be welcome.

Follow-up

It printed fine in Windows 2000. Then I went back to the new computer (we
are sharing the same printer) and redid the page in the same size but as a
"two pages per sheet" layout, and this printed just fine. It seems to be a
glitch with that 5x8 size. This layout actually works better for me b/c I'm
working on a booklet front and back cover and was able to do both at the same
printing.
It's fun learning new stuff...
Also thanks for all the previous info, very informative
