Picture Gallary- Front Page

Steph

I have used the photo gallery in FrontPage 2003 and the thumb nail photos are
not showing, but when you click on the picture to make it bigger it works. I
read somewhere that maybe I need to format the picture but I don’t know what
all I have to do to it to make it work. Any suggestions?

Thanks S

Steph - I know Eleanor does not like the photo gallery component. I have a
hiking website ( http://www.allhikers.com ) with thousands of pictures and
hundreds of photo galleries and it has always worked flawlessly for me. I
use Photoshop to resize my original picture to my large size (640 pixels x
480 pixels x 72 dpi) and then save that to the directory within my website
where that hiking trip report is. I then resize that picture to my thumbnail
size (3.25 inches x 2 inches x 72 dpi) and save that thumbnail to the same
directory within my website. I then open a new page, develope my photo
gallery using my large size pictures, put the thumbnail pictures in my hiking
report, link from the thumbnails to the page with the photogallery, publish
and you're done. It works great for me.

Yes, but you really haven't pushed the envelope. Most of your slide show
galleries only have 4-5 pix in them, try putting 50 or more in one
gallery...and then view the gallery in a browser other than IE.

The problem is the wall of frustration is not definable, sometimes you will
have no problems with 100 pix, other times you'll have a problem with
15...sometimes you can edit the captions and have the edits "take"...other
times not.

Looks good though...nice job! Reminds me I should make a ride up to GC and
take some pix!

I see no reference to galleries on your home page, or from any other page I
looked at. Where do I find them, please?

It's not so much that I don't like it. Very often it just plain doesn't
work. And the worst part about it is that the larger photo is placed in the
top left of an otherwise blank area, which is not even a page. The viewer
must always use the back buttom. There can be no background color nor any
text. So I'm anxious to see what you have accomplished. There are many, many
other ways to make attractive slide shows than what FP offers.

Rob - You're right that I rarely put more than five or ten pictures in my
galleries. Most people won't view more than that number and on any given
subject of a hike I don't take more pictures than that.

Grab you pack and join me on a hike in the Grand Canyon.

....And maybe I've just been lucky. However I can say that of the hundreds of
times I have used it, it has never misbehaved. I can edit it, add pictures
later, delete pictures later, add or change captions. It simply has worked
perfectly.

I'm up for the drive (5 hrs)...dunno about the hike up/down, I think that
would finish my knee off real good.
....and the donkeys scare the heck outta me!

:)
