Mission Impossible
Hi,
I hope I have posted in the right place, and I REALLY hope someone knows
what's going on. All of a sudden Picture Manager has gone a bit crazy. Here
is what is happening:
I rename a batch of pictures in a given folder. I add one more picture to
the set, then select all again and rename the same name. As soon as I click
"ok" to rename, pictures disappear. It could be half of them. Or I could be
left with one or two. The pictures are not in the recycle bin, or the file
they are meant to be when accessed through computer, and I cannot locate them
in a search of the entire computer. They are nowhere. It makes no difference
if I shut down Picture Manager between renaming the pics. Other than (on my
last attempt) I ended up with two different pictures with exactly the same
file name (which I thought was not possible, but hey, it's here in front of
me!). Sometimes when I open the folder of renamed/lost pics in computer, it
will have different pictures lost (and a different number of them) than the
ones displayed in Picture Manager.
I really strongly don't want to have to reinstall Picture Manager as I am
not sure whether doing so would stuff up all my source locations for Movie
Maker (of which I have templates which I need for some dvds I am currently in
the middle of making). I'm totally up to date with Norton, have all the
firewalls in place etc and really don't think it's a virus. I can't find a
peep anywhere on the internet about this problem and am feeling quite alone:-(
Of course, I have all my photos backed up (and am backing up the latest ones
right now!), but it's that link b/w WMM and the picture sources that has me
most concerned right now.
ANY help or ideas would be graciously accepted and if you have the solution
to my problem, I will think you are a god and will praise you for the rest of
my life
Additionally, I have tried a system restore with no result, a "chkdsk" check
thing (as suggested in another thread where someone had lost pics on
resizing), but also no result. Currently defragging, but not expecting a
result either.
