picture manager does not download pictures only red x

when i save pics from the web with media xp, picture manager tries to open
them but all that shows is a red x. Have tried other viewers such as irfan,
etc. but no good. Help.

This issue does not involve Office. This is a Windows issue. You might want to look at the following for more info.

Thank you Peter, but none of the rec. worked. The problem is that jpeg files
are opened but everything that is saved comes as a jpeg file and if the
original is a bmp its property is listed as a jpeg and a red x comes out.
Thanks for your effort. Any other ideas.
