Picture manager slow if there is a shortcut to a offline machine

If you edit a photo on a network drive or share on another machine a
"shortcut" is automatically created.

Subsequent startups of Picture manager are very slow if the network resource
is not available. You are unable to delete the "shortcut" from the llist.

How does one report such bugs to M/S and get a fix?

Delete the thumbnails, it may help.
They are in a folder similar to this (hidden)
C:\Documents and Settings\<<user name>>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\OIS

Hi Suedon,

When shared/network/mapped drives are not avaialable within Office it can result in slowdowns in a number of places. Some because
Office 'remembers' and uses recently used locations, some because Windows does the same. With Office 2003 Picture Manager be
careful when looking at folders that you are looking at a shortcut and not an actual folder (both are deletable from inside Picture
Manager).

With Picture Manager not running locate the OIScatalog.cag file on your PC and open it in Notepad, delete the line that has the
particular folder.

If you edit a photo on a network drive or share on another machine a
"shortcut" is automatically created.

Subsequent startups of Picture manager are very slow if the network resource
is not available. You are unable to delete the "shortcut" from the llist.

Thanks Bob. Your solution helped me. (Since Picture Mgr was so slow to open,
and an office "repair" didn't help, I was trying to uninstall and reinstall
it with Office Pro 2003; it doesn't show up separately in add/remove, and I
couldn't even find an exe file for it. But your solution superceded the need
to do all that anyway. - Christopher
