Picture not appearing after changing source file of linked graphic

Hi

I have a document with 3 linked graphics. I want to change one of the linked
graphics to a different picture. So I went to edit>links>change source and
selected the new image.

When I return to the document the image is not displayed, just an indented
box with a red cross in the corner.

What I have noticed is that the source file name of the new file as listed
in the edit>links window does not have the same format as the other linked
images.

The file names of the linked images that I haven't changed the source file
show as:
\\server\dtp\images\filename.tif

But the image that I changed the source appears as:
.../../dtp/images/filename.tif

I think this is whats causing my problem but how do I fix it ?

The location of the images is on a mapped network drive, e.g. N: mapped to
\\server\dtp

Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks
Neal

I've investigated this a bit further.

Firstly I have 2 mapped network drives:

L:\ is mapped to \\server\letters : This is where Word documents are stored
N:\ is mapped to \\server\dtp : This is where graphic files are stored

I have installed FileMon to find out what files Word is trying to open.

I've discovered that when I insert a picture from N:\IMAGES\FILE.TIF

FileMon shows that:
Word finds N:\IMAGES\FILE.TIF
but then chanages the path to L:\DTP\IMAGES\FILE.TIF
and of cousre can't find the file there and shows no image in the document

Why is Word changing the path ?
