picture - now you see it/now you don't

I have a template which I copied over from Word97 to Word2002 which
includes a picture. In Word97, I never had any problems - the picture
always came up on the screen and always printed. However, in Word2002,
sometimes the picture doesn't print and sometimes it doesn't appear on
the screen except as a frame with a small box with a cross - if I
right click inside the frame and chose edit picture, the picture
appears. Any ideas on how to get this to behave?

Thanks for the reply, Anne,

Unfortunately, I seem to have my settings already set as indicated on
this page - it also wouldn't explain why it only happens sometimes and
also why it sometimes doesn't print.
