pictures and clipart not visible

Office 2000. MS Word.

If I insert a image file or clipart into Word, I see the "bounding box" but
no image. In bygone days...when the image and the resize handles were
visible, I could grab a handle and resize...or grab the whole image and
move - now neither of these function. If I right click and choose Edit
Picture, the image becomes visible in the Picture Editor.

This used to work fine, for me...but not now. I ran a "repair office" but
the problem persists.

That did the trick.

Go to Tools > View > (check to make sure that "Picture placeholders" is
unchecked). If the floating "Picture" toolbar appears, click "reset picture"
button, to see if it helps.
