pictures have wrong URL

I'm running Windows XP, Publisher 2003 SP2

I'm sorry to have to ask this, I have been through all the good info on this
site for the publishing of web sites and trouble shooting them and etc, but
still haven't found the fix.

I have been using Publisher 98 for YEARS, and loved it. (And at this point
wondering why I upgraded).....

But. I have a web site that I can't get the pictures to show up. When
looking at the source of the page, the URL still points to the SRC being from
the ftp address that I loaded all the site info too... and not a http://
reference to load the picture. I have attached to the upload site with
ws_ftp and the files are there (pictures and all). I get a Red X on the web
page when the page is loaded. I have tried publishing to a local file, and
then using ws-ftp to put the files up. I have done all the instructions from
your FAQ's, but to no fix.

I read on a posting last year that service pack 3 is recommended and then
one can use "export". ??

Thanks for your help!

Yes, there has been a lot of changes, some good, some not so good. If you
decide that you prefer Pub 98, you can run both on your computer. Just
install into a different folder on your computer. But as to your problem...

If you look at your source code, you will see "
src="ftp://rashidclinic.5u.com/index_image3101.jpg" alt="picture of Mark ".
If you first copy and paste this into your browser:
ftp://rashidclinic.5u.com/index_image3101.jpg
You get nothing, but if you then change it to:
http://rashidclinic.5u.com/index_image3101.jpg
you find your image.

You do need to be using http:// , not ftp://

Thanks... I understand that. The problem is that is "generated" code. I
dragged and dropped that picture into publisher, and then I publish to the
web. If I use publisher to publish to the web with ftp... that is the SRC
that is generated for all my pictures... they all start with ftp.

If I publish to the web to a folder, I get the picture is a link to a folder
directly from my system. (viewing source). How do I get publisher to make
that picture SRC be a http:// reference to the file that has been uploaded
already. I don't understand why the picture URL changes when I use
different methods to upload the web site.

There are a number of threads in this newsgroup about the danger of dragging
and dropping pictures into Publisher. Try using the Insert | File option and
see if that solves the problem.

I notice today that your image does load ok on the home page, while the
images on the Directions page still don't. What did you do different? Did
Brucels suggestion about inserting the image help? I notice that the code
does point to the http location or the image now...

I know that when the coding engine was changed in Pub 2002, that the way it
handled images was changed, and perhaps inserting the images vs. linking to
the images from your Publisher document to where they are located on your
hard drive does make a difference. Pub 2000, and perhaps Pub 98, would
"follow the link" to the image on your hard drive, make a copy, and include
it with the HTML. Starting with Pub 2002, you did have to actually insert
(embed) the image into the Pub file.

One other thing that you probably already know, be sure to delete all the
old files on your host when you republish.
