Pictures in access

Hi everyone,

I'm working with large databases in access and need to create reports with
pictures for approximately 1700 records. Everything is working, but I can
only put a limited number of pictures in the database (I've inserted them as
links in the "Picture" field). Please can anyone advise me on how to solve
this problem.

Are you sure you are storing the link of the picture and not the picture
itself?
String the link shouldn't limit the database after 1700 records, but storing
big size pictures might

Hi

Store the pictures outside the DB and place the path to the picture in a
table. Hope that makes sense.

Like this

Table People
ID field - autonumber
Name - text
Path to picture - text
etc.

My preferred way to include pictures is not to bind them into the database.
Instead I store the path to a folder on the hard drive and the file name.
The path is easily changed if a copy is moved to another machine or system.
This the most efficient way of including pictures, bar none.

Thanks, I wrote it about 10 years ago to solve the bloat problem. There are
other ways to avoid excessive bloat, but none of them are as lean as storing
the images outside the database.

The sample imaging databases at http://accdevel.tripod.com illustrate three
approaches to handling images in Access, and the download includes an
article discussing considerations in choosing an approach. Two of the
approaches do not use OLE Objects and, thus, avoid the database bloat, and
some other problems, associated with images in OLE Objects. (Note: Access
2007 has eliminated the bloat problem, but you still are using external
software and are subject to its featuree, funcions, and foibles.)

If you are printing the images in reports, to avoid memory leakage, you
should also see MVP Stephen Lebans' http://www.lebans.com/printfailures.htm.
PrintFailure.zip is an Access97 MDB containing a report that fails during
the Access formatting process prior to being spooled to the Printer Driver.
This MDB also contains code showing how to convert the contents of the Image
control to a Bitmap file prior to printing. This helps alleviate the "Out of
Memory" error that can popup when printing image intensive reports.
