pictures not loading properly - browser problem?

When I look at my website and click properties on one of
the pictures it is a much smaller file size by half then
when I view the same page and picture on a different
computer. The file size is less and the picture doesn't
look very good at all on my computer and has a smaller
file size. It's almost like it's a progressive scan and
it never quite loads the entire picture. I've viewed the
site fronm several other computer locations and the file
is larger and the picture looks better. What can be
causing this? I also notice that sometimes some other
pictures that are progressive jpegs do not fully load but
hang up about one half way. I can switch to netscape and
the picture clears up and looks fine. Could it be my
browser, I believe it's IE 6 ?? I have win 98se and the
site is built and published with FP 2002

How are you connecting to the internet, via AOL, etc.?

See if CompuServe (AOL) is compressing images.

Their are two pictures on the page, I am only having a
problem with one. One picture is the same file size and
looks fine the other has a smaller file size than what I
originally published and looks lousy??? Seems like if
compuserve was compressing images both would be
compressed???

They may have compression set to only compress images that are above a
certain size. From the other machine you checked the site on, where they
connecting via CompuServe or AOL as well? At least for AOL, a knowledgeable
user can disable image compression.

Thomas,
I think you might have the answer. The other times I
looked at it was not on aol. I'll see if I can disable
the compression feature.

Thomas, Thank you, you just solved the problem. The
settings were defaulted to compress images, I unchecked it
emptied my cache and now the picture looks fine and the
file size is correct. Thanks a lot this will help me out
so much!!!>-----Original Message-----

Just keep in mind that users of AOL/CompuServe will see the images the way
you were seeing them, unless they also change the default.
