Pictures not showing in Word - Again!

I have tried all the suggested fixes for "pictures not showing in Word" that
have been posted many times on this site am still unable to get pictures to
show. In my case, this problem surfaced earlier this fall. Since the problem
seems to be time sensitive I am wondering if it could be related to a Windows
Update that was automatically downlaoded. I am trying to use Word for
creating operating manuals where many pictures and illustrations are
included. Right now it is not a viable product for this application. Any
suggestions or ideas?

Without knowing what version of Windows & Word/Office it's impossible to be
certain whether an update may have caused it, but most likely not.

Is the problem with *one* document, *all* documents? Specific images or all
images? What image file types are involved?
