Pictures not showing

R

Roy Rutherford

I had a computer crash, got a new computer, re-installed Office Pro 2003 and
ran the updates.

I pulled up a 28 page document that I was working on before the new
computer. I have lots of pictures in this document. As I scroll through
the document, the pictures begin to show up, but then dissappear as I scroll
up and down in Print Layout View.

When I printed the doc, the images all printed fine. This is scaring me. I
have twice the RAM in the new computer. Any ideas of what is going on???

Thanks

I don't know what's causing it but I have exactly the same problem (see my
post "Pictures randomly disappear when browsing"). The problem occurs in
all views I think (it definitely happens in both Print Layout and Normal
views at any rate) when you scroll up and down; but not always - just
sometimes. I upgraded to the latest version of Office (Service Pack 2?) and
it made no difference. Like you I use pictures a lot and it's a real
headache. I have 1 GB of RAM and a powerful CPU, so it's not that. I've
searched through the Microsoft Support knowledge base and come up with
nothing useful. I'm seriously thinking of going back to using Word 97.

I seem to have solved the problem. Following a suggestion I found somewhere
in a Microsoft site, I right-clicked on the desktop and hit Properties to
bring up the Display Properties dialog. Then I clicked the Advanced button
on the Settings tab, and on the Troubleshoot tab of the Dialog that
appeared, I moved the Hardware acceleration slider down one notch. When I
pressed OK I had to reboot. But thereafter the problem seems to have been
fixed.

I spoke too soon. The problem is not solved. It seems a bit better than it
was but it still happens.

Has anyone else had this problem. I do have a lot of pictures in my
document.
