Pictures show as white space in normal view

I'm using Office 2003 on Windows XP. I put some screen dumps into
Powerpoint, cropped them, and copied them into word. They show up in
Print Layout view, but not in Normal view. Their layout is formatted
as Inline (with the text), so they are in the text layer rather than
the drawing layer. In Tools->Options->View, I have unchecked "Picture
placeholders" and checked "Drawings". Why else would the pictures not
appear in Normal view?

Sorry Rae - not true. Inline graphics *do* normally display in Normal View
since they are a part of the text layer. However, there are a few reasons
why they either don't display or don't display properly. One of the most
frequent is quoted below:

"...one reason an inline graphic may be incorrectly displayed is that the
line spacing of the paragraph it is in has been set to an exact amount too
small to accommodate the graphic."

Perhaps that's the case here :)

How well I know - Granny always said "Any day you don't learn something is a
day wasted!" :)

No worries.

About line spacing being inadequate, the pictures seem to take up as
much space as it needs, except that it is occupied by whiteness. The
void is about the size of the picture. Very strange (and, of course,
not a recipe for happiness).
