pictures 'snapping' to the margins

I can't figure out what's going on here, hope someone can help.

Insert/Picture/From File to put a picture on the page. Then I use
Format/Picture/Layout tab to choose a wrapping style (usually square or
tight). As soon as I pick the picture up and move it to a new position
within the paragraph, it 'snaps' to the very edge of the page, either the
top, bottom or side - whichever seems to be nearest!

If I don't try to reposition the picture, it seems happy to stay lined up
with t he top margin - but as soon as I try to move it anywhere, however
minute the movement, it snaps to the edge of the page. I can pick it up and
drag it back within the margins, but as soon as I release it, it snaps back
to the edge.

Any ideas greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, Jeff.

Do you have your text in place? To wrap, you place the image insert point
within the wrapping text where you want it. If there is no text, the image
snaps to the start or end of the paragraph, i.e the page margin.

Good luck.

Edward, thanks for this. Yes, the text has been compiled earlier, and I am
now wanting to illustrate various paras with images. So, as you suggest, I
put the insertion point in position, then Insert/Picture/From file.
Invariably the picture needs to be moved away from the left margin, so I use
the Layout tab. As soon as I move it it snaps to the edge of the page. If
I leave it alone after inserting it, it stays put within the margins,
although it is obviously at the left margin 'in line with text' according to
the default layout style.

Its driving me nuts!
Thanks. Jeff

Hi, Jeff.

Two workarounds 'till I can duplicate your problem....

1. Try placing the image in a text box, or...
2. Have the "Drawing" toolbar showing and select "Draw" (far left) and
"Tight". This will allow you to move the image anywhere.

Hope this helps,

Ed

Hi, Jeff.

Can I assume you have unchecked "Lock Anchor"?

Right click the image and select "Format Picture" Under the "Layout" tab
click "Advanced".
