Pictures won't appear in Word 2003

Hello

My students are making assignments in Word 97 at school and inserting
pictures. When I bring the files home I only see a placeholder, no picture.
I've gone into Tools-->Options--> view and unchecked "picture placeholders"
and checked "drawings" as was suggested in other posts, but this still
doesn't work.

I can't insert pictures on my computer from the Nikon D50 either - even if I
resize them smaller. Some of the pictures the students are using are from the
Nikon as well, but not all of them. PowerPoint also won't insert pictures
from the Nikon D50.

I'm using an Emachines laptop with 1 gig of RAM, 1.6 GHz machine, video is
fine.

Thanks for your help

I saw another post a few days ago where the person was having problems with
jpegs produced by a Nikon. They reported that installing updates and hotfixes
for Word 2003 solved the problem. Apparently, the graphics format some Nikon
software creates are unreadable by some of the graphics converters Word uses.

Word 97 is no longer supported by Microsoft, so you're not going to find any
udpates that will "fix" these kinds of problems for Word 97. Best you can
probably do is open the files in a graphics editor then save them to a different
file format.
