I am using version 2003. I am trying to build a site at
sploople.beplaced.com. beplaced.com is a free host. I have tried a 3rd party
ftp, and also posting using Publisher. The site and links work fine... but
there is one proble. NO PICTURES SHOW UP! EVER! I've read and read, but
nothing has worked. I've made sure the folders are all in the right places...
can someone help? Also.. is Publisher capable of creating a "forum?"

Yes. I have uploaded the image files..and created a directory on the host
that corresponds to the folder the images are in (image_files). Does it have
anything to do with Microsoft? I have heard that some host sites don't have
the drivers to read the Publisher's HTML format. Is this true? Thanks for the
help by the way.

Putting the image files in a folder may be the problem. With Publisher 2000
the image files and the html files share the same location. The only folders
I know of that are used is when you create links in you site for visitors to
download, i.e., Mama Linguini Ravioli.pdf which for administrative easy of a
site management would be in a separate folder, i.e., downloads.

Just for a test, copy one image file outside of the folder in the same
location as your html files and see if it appears when you visit the site.

The image files are in the same directory as the html files. The folder
[index_files] is the only folder existing. All of the files for the entire
site are in their except for the index.html file.. the main html. this is the
way that Publisher set it up.. and so that is the way i left it. Now-
interestingly enough... if I load the site with Netscape, the image files
load, but some other parts of the page are messed up. However.. in IExlorer,
the text appears right in every place, and the images never load. Any ideas?
Again.. thank you for the help. If you are curious.. the site is
sploople.beplaced.com

I recommend you use an ftp client to access the server and you delete all
the files Publisher created. Including the sub folder. While you are
connected look around and make sure you didn't upload the site more then
once in different locations. I've seen customers do this before, be sure you
are using the upload directions the host documents. For example a customers
host may have the account setup to where the site is supposed to be
published in a pre-existing "www" folder, but the customer ends up
publishing the site in the directory above the www folder, and also
publishes it to the www, and then may even publish it inside the index_files
folder inside the www folder. After that then go into Publisher, tools,
options, web options, and turn off the options for using - subfolder, png,
vml - and then save the pub file. Then follow the directions at
http://www.publishermvps.com/WebDesign/Version2003/tabid/33/Default.aspx and
load the pub file to the server. Afterwards open the browser and go to
tools, internet options, and delete temp files (cache). Then test the site.
Advise us accordingly afterwards.

I did just as you instructed. There is now nothing on the server but the
files. just the files. and now, the formatting is perfect in netscape.
IExplorer, however, is still not displaying the pictures. I cleared my cache
and rechecked it-- nothing. any other ideas?

David,

FWIW the images show up using Mozilla Firefox, but not IE on my computer.

the next step would be that you send me the pub file for review.

put in the subject line - publisher help request - and restate the issue in
the email and address it to (e-mail address removed)

Your web publication is still under my review. I have not been able to repro
any issue with your file. But I am wanting to do more testing with it. And
in reviewing this thread I see I evidently never reviewed your URL. Post
back with the URL of the site in question. Also...

Please be clear, your repeated emailing of your file to me, as well as
addressing it multiple times to addresses I did not provide you, is
un-helpful, un-called for, un-professional, and just plain out right rude. I
remind you that you are not paying for a service or for my time, and I am in
fact not paid for my time in assisting you.

I can access a home page at that URL at the time of this post, but I found
the page is a FrontPage page, not Publisher. Images in the FP page are not
loaded but that's due to the fact they aren't at the path that is in the
code. For example this path in the code -
http://sploople.beplaced.com/images/mount.gif
