Pivot Charts and Tables don't retain Data Fields

Why won't Access 2007 Tables, Queries, or Forms retain the Data.
No matter what I do the next time I open the form table or query the "Drop
Data Fields Here" drop zone appears and the user has to right click to
display the fields list and drag the DATA field into the drop zone.
