pivot table and unique counts

i was wondering if anyone knew of a clever way to get a unique count (i.e. based on a person's unique numeric ID) within a pivot table - keeping all the functionality of the table as well (i.e. filtering, pivoting etc..). what i'm really after is having the unique counts show up in the actual pivot table itself - as well as, or along with, the standard pivot table summary counts and averages
