pivot table field list - font overlapping

I have been messing about with fonts and font managment on
my mac, and now the excel pivot table toolbar show the
field label all stacked up overlapping each other.
Multiple field names are all on top of each other, making
it rather hard to choose the one you want.

I have completely reinstalled office x. I have trashed
preferences. I notice that excel still sees all the fonts,
even tho I moved most of them out of the library/fonts folder.

I have turned on/off the quartz font smoothing and tried
different settings in the system-wide font smoothing settings.

I suspect that arial or whatever is used for this toolbar
is corrupted.

same issue, just not sure how to tag the subject line so
anyone understands it.

The list of fields in the pivot table toolbar all overlap
each other, as if the line height of the font used to
display the field names is wrong. I assume this is the
system font (Lucida Grande) which has not been modified...

I have deleted the system font cache, turned off all fonts
not in the /library/fonts folder, reinstalled office, etc.
no fix.

reinstalling the default fonts only next.

troubleshooting method:

Turns out it's not a font issue after all. I thot I had
tried deleting the user setting files, but tried that
again. It turned out to be something corrupted in the
'Excel Toolbars (10)' file. Deleted that, the button faces
around the field names came back, fixing the font overlap.
Just rebuilt my toolbars, still good.
