Pivot Table format changes when data is refreshed

I have 12 copies of the same pivot table that keep changing when the data is
refreshed. I unchecked the autoformat as soemone has suggested. The column
widths retain their desired width after the refresh. However, I am still
required to format the column with word wrap in order to be able to read
what's in one of the the columns. Isn't there a way that i can eliminate this
extra step?

Roger,

Preserve Formatting is checked. When the pivot tables get refreshed, the
column widths are retained, but I need to format columns with word wrap in
order for me to be able to read all of the text.

Hi

Yes I understand what you are saying.
If I highlight the relevant cells on my PT, an choose Format
cells>Alignment>word wrap and then set the PT options as described, my
headings stay wrapped even after updating.

What version on Excel are you using?

Now everything is real screwy! I'm using Excel 2003 SP3.

If I choose relevant column and select word wrap, text wraps as expected.
then when I select prerserve formatting, text goes back to unwrapped state,
even before i refresh any data.

What's going on?

Hi

My suspicion in SP3. I haven't loaded it yet.
On my wife's machine, she had problems with Outlook after loading SP3.
Restoring to a point before SP3 was loaded removed the problem.

If you want to send me a copy of your file direct, I will load in on my SP2
version to see if it behaves OK.

Hi Reggie

File received, sorted and returned.
I don't think it was an SP3 issue, as I had a similar problem at first with
SP2.

The only thing that I can think was causing the problem, was the fact that
you had Years and Year allocated to the PT, both of which were Grouped
fields. Year was showing as he Month (quite independently of Month which you
had allocated) as you cannot have Year with Years.

I removed the Year field.
I formatted Rows as Wrap Text>Vertical>Top and set the various column widths
as appropriate.
Now, it retains the wrap text on Refresh for me each time.

I also removed Automatic Subtotal on most fields, as it seemed inappropriate
and was just giving a more confusing appearance.

Roger,

Thanks for sorting this out. You uncovered another problem I am having w/
year/years/month that I'll start another thread with.

thanks
