Pivot Table Hyperlink Fields

Brian

I have a pivot table with a hyperlink field (hyperlink
propoerty set to true). Using the Office XP Web Component
Pivot Table, the link opens in a new window. Using the
Office 2003 Web Component Pivot Table, the link opens in
the same window. Any ideas on why this changed?

Thank you.

Hi Brian,

Thank you for posting in MSDN managed newsgroup!

So far as I know, the web page from the link in the pivottable version 10 and 11 will be opened in the same IE window by default. Hyperlink property
returns the Hyperlink object which represents the hyperlink for the specified range. You may need to set the IsHyperLink property of the specified
fields to true so that these fileds will be treated as hyperlink.

I'd suggest you can check the default behaviour with the help of Office web component toolpack. You will find the pivottable Hyperlink sample from
"New OWC feature->Pivottable List Demonstration" link, in the pop up IE window, please click the next button to check the hyperlink sample. By
default, the toolpack will use office 10 web component. You can change the component to Office 11 by modifying the classid. Please use one text
editor to open the PTdemo.htm file which is located at %programFiles%\Office Component Toolpack\Walkthroughs\Pages\PTdemo.htm. Then you can
change the web component class id from
CLSID:0002E552-0000-0000-C000-000000000046
to
CLSID:0002E55A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046

Then reopen the Pivottable sample page, you will use Office 11 web component to test the hyperlink.

Furthermore, it will be appreciated you can build one sample page or write some sample codes for me. I will test them and try to provide some
assistance concerning this issue. In addition, if you are not going to paste the code or attach the sample page in the community, you can mail them
directly to me.

I ran the ptdemo.htm sample application with these results:

Pivot Table Version 10.0.0.4109 creates a new window when
clicking the hyperlink (this is what I want).

Pivot Table Version 10.0.0.5605 does not create a new
window when clicking the hyperlink. It shows the data in
the same window.

Pivot Table Version 11.0.0.5531 does not create a new
window when clicking the hyperlink. It shows the data in
the same window.

As you can see, Xu didn't really understand your question; or else he
didn't read it carefully.

Xu, since you may have access to someone at MS that knows about the
OWC feature set, when you are asking them about this, could you also
ask them about a related question I posted here about a week ago
titled "Pivot Table - Hyperlink data type to open Access form?".

OWC is one of most poorly supported products ever issued by Microsoft.
Normally the community of developers gets enough support from MS at
some point to become self-sustaining. But with the OWC that has never
happened. Horrid documentation; intermittant and feeble support here
in the newsgroup by Microsoft; and the tools are anything but self
evident.

Hi Brian,

Thank you for replying!

So far as I know, the pivottable 10.0.0.5605 and 11.0.0.5531 will open the
link in the same IE window. After my research, the only workaround I have
discovered for the newer controls is to right click on the link and open a
new window using one of the options available.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further questions.

Wei-Dong,

I would like to have the option of opening in the same
window or a new window. Since the latest versions of the
pivot table were released, opening the page in the same
window is an unexpected change.

Thank you.

Brian

Rusty,

I agree with your comments. The office web compoments are
poorly documented and with the latest version 11 of the
pivot table, when clicking a hyperlink, the page displays
in the same window instead of opening a new window. This
is a change from the previous version 10 pivot table that
causes a problem for us.

I hope MS can help.

Hi Brian,

Thank you for posting in MSDN managed newsgroup!

Based on my research, we can only open the link in a new window with the
right click opinion.

Microsoft offers several ways for you to send comments or suggestions about
Microsoft products. This is a great idea for a future product enhancement.
I'd recommend that you forward the recommendation to the Microsoft Wish
Program:

1. World Wide Web
a)In Internet Explorer 6, click Send Feedback on the Help menu and then
click the link in the Product Suggestion section of the page that appears.
b)In Windows XP, click Help and Support on the Start menu. Click Send
your feedback to Microsoft, and then fill out the Product Suggestion page
that appears.
c)Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/ms.htm
d)Click Microsoft.com Guide in the upper-right corner of the page and
then click Contact Us . Click the link in the Product Suggestion section of
the page that appears.
e)Visit the following Microsoft Product Feedback Web site
http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp
and then complete and submit the form.

2. E-mail - To send comments or suggestions via e-mail, use the following
Microsoft Wish Program e-mail address, (e-mail address removed).

3. FAX - To send comments or suggestions via FAX, use the following
Microsoft FAX number, (425) 936-7329.
NOTE : Address the FAX to the attention of the Microsoft Wish Program.

4. US Mail - To send comments or suggestions via US Mail, use the following
Microsoft mailing address:
Microsoft Corporation
Attn. Microsoft Wish Program

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further questions. I am
standing by to be some of assistance.

I am finding that OWC11 spreadsheet component is opening up a new
window for hyperlinks. I want the hyperlink to open in the SAME
window.

This is a code snippet (javascript)...maybe I'm doing something wrong
or maybe the hyperlink behaviour in spreadsheet is inconsistent with
pivot table hyperlink behaviour.

book.ActiveSheet.Cells(rowPos,colPos).Value=textToShow;
book.ActiveSheet.Cells(rowPos,colPos).hyperlink.address = url;

Hope you can help me with this.

Thanks
Orla

Hi OrlaH,

The link in spreadsheet will be opened in a new window by default. In
pivottable, the link will be opened in the same IE windows. Furthermore,
from the right click opitions for the link in spreadsheet, there is no item
for us to open the link in the same window.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks for the reply. Is there any work around that you can think of
to make it open in the same window?

Thanks
Orla
