Pivot Tables and Charts

I am using Office XP Professional - Access. After
opening a query in design view, view Pivot Table or
Chart - the page is blank and the icons are greyed out
not allowing me to access this function. I have
uninstalled and reinstalled the software with the same
result. Any suggestions?
