Pivot Tables -- Averaging Counts

I have a database of assessments with a studentID and an
achievement field. I want to compare student assessments
across a number of variables such as race, gender,
teacher, etc. My problem is that after I create the
Count of Achievement detail, I need to average it so that
can fairly compare different sample sizes (such as the
average number of achievements of girls vs. boys in 5th
grade. Can't seem to figure out how to get the Pivot
Table Form to average in this fashion. I'm using Access
2002. Any obvious answers? I could parse the help that
help gave me...
