Pivotdiagrams, preprocessing, small math

Has anyone here tried using the pivotdiagrams and defining a custom
formula(s) for pre-processing instead of just a straight read from database?
Would this require making a new SQL view?

I am looking to restrict, and do some rudimentry math on the data sent to
the pivotdiagram before it is rendered, such as adding two values from two
different where clauses rather than just grabbing the numbers out of the
database.
