when I download a pix for one page it shows on all pages in the website.
Still in the design stage and haven't published it. It happens regardless of
the source of the picture. Same thing happened before with a copied text box.
Couldn't tell you how that was resolved, but hasn't happened since, Magic?
Need more of that magic with the problem with the picture. Thanks

Thanks Crash-Not sure what you mean by master page. Quite sure started with
blank page. How can I tell if it is a master page? Once I can identify a
master page, I won't use it.

If you don't know what it is, then you probably aren't using one, but go to
View > Master page. If that is where the pictures are, they will show on all
pages.

Have you tried saving your images to your hard drive, and then inserting
them into your Pub pages instead of copy and pasting?

Also consider the following from Publisher help:

Automatically synchronize formatting:

When you create a publication from a Publisher wizard or by using Publisher
Design Gallery Objects, the individual objects that make up that publication
are synchronized. This synchronization means that any formatting changes
that you apply to an individual element within an object will automatically
apply to the similar elements in that object. For example, if you change the
color of one shape in an Accessory Bar that you insert from the Design
Gallery, all of the related shapes in that Accessory Bar will be updated
with the same color automatically.

Turn off formatting synchronization:

If Publisher applies a formatting change that you make to one element in an
object to all of the similar elements in an object, you can turn off the
synchronization and limit the change to the element that you initially
selected.
On Edit menu, click Undo Synchronize.

David, been trying to thank you for your help and tell you what has happened
since for 3 days now. Every time I hit post the this page closes and open
with page can't be found blah blah. Sending out short message so you don't
think I'm rude. try to post again with more about the problem.

Here goes, again. Thanks for your answer. Didn't help but sent me in a
direction. My edit menu doesn't show formatting synchronization. Went to
masterpage menu to see what I had. Showed a master page, checked and it was
blank. Then I decided to add a new page to see what it looked like. The new
page had distorted elements of the pages I made. I noticed that I could
"ignore master page" did that with a new page to replace the page I was
having trouble with. I copied elements from the old page to the new one by
one to see if it created any problems. It didn't until I got the area the
problem picture was. Did not matter where the picture came from it posted to
every other page. But if it placed the picture outside of the area I want it
to be it stays on the page. If I take a picture from another area on that
page and place in the "trouble area" it shows up on the other pages. Best
analogy is that "area" is like a "worm hole" to the other pages. So, I pulled
all the elements of the page apart to see if it was grouped to something that
was causing the problem then played with the layer buttons to see if
something was hidden. Nothing!! In an act of desperation, and treating it as
if it was a "hole", I put a blank text box over the area, then put the
picture over that. It worked!!! Now I need to know WHY? And WHY ME?

D

DavidF

Which version of Publisher are you using? When you move an image into the
"trouble area" and while that image is still selected, then can you go to
edit and Undo Synchronize?

Where is the "trouble area" on your page? This might be associated with the
"professional information".

Can you select the image when it is in the "trouble area" and go to Arrange
and "ungroup"? Try it again, and make sure that you "ungroup" until you no
longer have the option. It may tell you that it is ungrouping from a
wizard, in which case say yes. After trying this experiment, and if it
doesn't work after doing a web page preview you can Edit > undo or simply
close the file without saving the changes.

What happens if you open a new blank web page and copy your design elements
over to that?

And by the way, it sounds like you are using the web page forum version of
the newsgroup. If you want a more satisfactory, faster and easier way,
access the newsgroup through NNTP. Try clicking on the following link:

Thank you David, Using 2007, trouble area is in middle 3rd of page. Edit menu
shows no toggle for synchronize. Did everything you suggested copied to new
page, checked grouping for every element, none were grouped. Even checked
layers of elements just in case. Nothing helped. Out desperation, I treated
it like a "hole", covered it with a blank text box and posted the picture.
That fixed it. Shows fine on web page preview. Any idea why this happened?
There were 7 other pictures on the page on the same background 4 on each side
of the page the trouble picture was 2nd down on right side. Jack

Jack,

Sorry, but I don't know what is going on. Did you start with a particular
template? Did you try opening a new blank webpage and copy and pasting your
material over? Glad you figured out a workaround, but at this point I don't
know what else to suggest. Do get back to me about the template that you
used....or...

If you really want to take it to another level, then make a copy of your
Publisher file, delete all the pages except the problem page, and send the
file to yourself via YouSendIt. Then when you get the link from Yousendit,
post it so I and others can download your file and experiment with it.
YouSendIt is a freebie: http://www.yousendit.com/ And you do not have to
sign up to use it. I have used it a lot to send large files.

sounds like an dynamic web template, but dunno how you'd do one in publisher
unless he's modifying a template designed for something else like frontpage,
EW, or DW.

Thank you both for responding, The only time I knowingly used a template was
when I first played with web design. And all I did with it was take it apart
to understand the components of a web page " reversed engineered?" When I
started the web site I started fresh "new publication" and used a blank page
and went from there. After I designed the overall look of the page, I copied
and pasted the elements to the next pages until I learned about grouping. I
cannot tell what page I started doing this at. I got 16 pages done with some
text and pictures and when I went back to do some tweeking is when I had this
problem. I did have this problem once before with a text box but don't know
how it was resolved. Also after I posted here and you suggested I check the
use of a master page I clicked the "ignore master page" button for every
page, just in case.
David, I did just what you suggested(new page-copy and paste) before I came
up with the unorthidox solution of putting the picture over a blank text box.

I'll try to use the U send it link. Thanks again Jack

Gentlemen, here's the page I was having trouble with and I put a caption
under the trouble spot. I did accidently upload the whole file to yousendit
so if that is usefull later, I'll post that link. Please note this is the
version with the repair. While writing this I went back to the original page
and removed the blank text box to see what would happen and the picture did
not show on the other pages. So I don't know what to say. This is like taking
your car to a mechanic and have the problem go away as you drive in the bay.
I hope I didn't waste your time but your help has taught me immensely on many
levels. Thanks and apologies Jack

After my last post I went back to work on the site and it is happening again.
Tried to put a logo in the header and it posted to all the pages. Checked
grouping, nothing was grouped. Then posted pix in the body of page, it
happened. But some pix did it, some didn't, even from the same source. Also
didn't matter what page they were posted to. So I take back my apologies, the
game is still on, gentlemen

Sometimes I forget to suggest the basic troubleshooting step: run the design
checker under tools. If you do that you will notice several things, and most
applicable is that your page is setup as 760 pixels wide, but your content
including the green text box is 992 pixels wide. It overhangs into the
scratch area off the page. I am surprised you haven't had more problems, let
alone the one you did.

If you really want a page almost this wide, I would suggest that you use the
default 984 pixels width. Go to File > Page Set up, and change the width to
984. Then resize the text boxes and all the content so that it fits on the
working page and does not extend over into the scratch area. Go to Arrange >
Snap To and make sure all three options are checked. That way when you move
design elements around they are more likely to snap to the edge of the page,
but not overlap.

But before you resize and layout your page again, I would also get rid of
green text box that you have created for a background. Delete it, and
instead go to Format > Background and click on the green color background to
the whole page. Don't worry about your page being too long. Publisher will
truncate the page after the last design element on the page when you Publish
to the Web. Do a web page preview to see what I am talking about.

And the other most obvious problem I saw was the you images are not
proportional. When you run the Design Checker click on one of the "Picture
is not scaled proportionally" items, then mouseover the downward chevron and
either run the fix it option, or better yet, click Explain, and that will
give you your options. Bottom line if you publish your page this way the
pictures will be distorted. If you select a picture, go to Format > Picture
in general you should have the aspect ratio locked. But don't do this until
you fix the images. You can click on Relative to original picture size and
you will then be able to change the height and/or the width so that the 100%
scale is the same. Then lock the aspect ratio.

And before you actually do publish to the web, be sure to use the compress
graphics feature. Once again do this only after you fix the aspect ratio of
the images. Had you done that before you uploaded your Publisher file it
would have been reduced from 17 megs to 223 KB. Would have save me a
loooooong download at 5 minutes per meg.

I believe that resizing your page and moving all the content onto the page
and out of the scratch area will probably fix your reoccurring image. If it
doesn't post back and I'll look again. But the content in the scratch area
is so fundamental, that it has to be fixed.

Jack,

No problem...twas my own fault for assuming that you had run the Design
Checker. In fact, it was a learning experience for me too, so thanks for
going to the trouble of sending the file. I was stumped until I saw it. I
presume that moving everything onto the page and out of the scratch area did
fix the problem?
