Place auto numbering at the end of a sentence?

I need to automatically number equations in a technical document. However,
the engineer wants the auto numbering to be located at the end of the
sentence, in the right-hand margin.

Use SEQ fields to do the numbering. Look at the Help topic about the SEQ
field, and also read
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/numbering/numberingexplained/numberinginaction/fieldnumbers.htm.

Use a tab stop at or beyond the right margin to position the field, or use a
two-column one-row table to hold the equation and the number.

Can't you just use "Number Position: Right" in the Customize Numbering
pane under Format: Numbering ?

No, that doesn't align the numbers at the right margin. It right-aligns them
among themselves at the specific indent you choose in the next box, and then
the numbered heading or text follows to the right of that.
