Placeholder won't stay in same place

I want to be able to paste graphs or pictures on each slide in the same plece
and dimensions each time.
I have made all my graphs the same size, but how do I make them paste to the
same location on each slide?
When a placeholder is in the right place and the right size, the graph
pastes ok, but the placeholders have a mind of their own. I can manually
manipulate it on each slide, which I could just do to the pasted graphic.
I tried deleting the placeholder and hoping it would paste onto a text box,
which I do have control over, but the graph still threw itself over to the
right and too small.
I don't want to make a whole load of new slides, as the ones I had have all
the right text on - they just need up-to-date graphs to be pasted in place of
last quarter's.

I would probably just paste the charts, since they're the same size, all you
have to do is right-click and choose Format Object and then adjust the size
% on the Size tab as necessary.

Then I'd turn on drawing guides (Alt+F9) and position them so they intersect
where the upper left corner of your graphs should be. Then you can just drag
the graphs to the guide intersection, and it should snap into place. You may
need to turn on Snap -- on the Drawing toolbar, click Draw | Grid and
Guides. You can turn the guides on there, too, for that matter.

I made a macro which sizes and places, which I run on each slide.
Doing that for dozens of slides is quite laborious.
I'm surprised there isn't an easier way - Powerpoint users must have come
across this so many times before - due to the type of presentation which
Powerpoint lends itself to.
Thanks, though - I wasn't aware of the Alt+F9 (and a shortcut too - you
beauty!).
