placing drawing elements on a chart

is it possible to place a drawing element (line, box or whatever) on
an excel chart between the graph and the plot area?

drawing the element and chosing 'send to back' from the 'arrange'
palett will only send that element behind any other drawing elements,
but still infront of the graph. does anoy know of a trick to send it
still further back?

thanks

Hi,

The graph is a single layer, so your drawing object will either be on
top or behind it. If you are trying to achieve the effect that I think
you are, you can make it look like a drawing object is in the graph by
making chart elements 100% transparent. Then position the drawing
object(s) behind the graph and they will be visible. If you're clever
with the drawing layers you can achieve a very nice 3-D effect. Include
pictures, or too, if you want.

thanks for the reply

I could get the effect I want by making the plot area transparent and
putting drawing objects behind the graph. However it seems that not
only is the graph a single layer, but it is fixed as the bottom-most
layer and you cannot get objects behind it (at least in xl 2004).
Selecting a drawing object and sending it to the back does not result
in the object going behind the graph...
