Placing Text from Cell on One Sheet into Cell on Another Sheet

This should be very simple, but I can't make it work
right.

I have a workbook with four pages. I want to enter all
my data on one page and have the other three pages be my
summary reports.

How do I define a cell on the summary pages so that it
contains text that I enter in a specific cell on the data
page?

Using =('Data'!A1) causes "('Data'!A1)" to appear in the
target cell, rather than the text that has been entered
in the source cell. I MUST be missing the obvious
somehwere!

I can't reproduce the problem you describe. Are you sure you're using an
"=" sign?

Thanks for the suggestion. I agree that seemingly SHOULD
work, but what it actually does is cause "data!A1"
(without the quotes of course) to appear in the target
cell rather than the text from the source cell.

Could it be because the text in the intended source cell
was placed there manually rather than being calculated?

if you enter =data!A1 you get the value from data!A1
if you enter =('Data'!A1) you just just get that text
Enter it as suggested =data!A1
