Planned Value

Jolene

I have created a plan, assigned resources, entered the Baseline Duration,
Actual Duration, and am able to calculate the % complete and the % work
complete. I have set the baseline. However, my PV is showing $0.

From discussions, it sounds like there is somewhere else that I need to
enter the budget. Please let me know where.

Hi

While planning the schedule, you could assign activity costs through two ways:
1. Through cost of resources assigned to activities. For that prepare your
resources database including rates in View > Resource sheet. After that
assign resources to activities in Gantt chart. Automatically cost of
resources will get added up as the cost of activities.
2. Assign Fixed cost to activities in View > Gantt chart > Table > Cost. Now
Total cost of the activities is Resource cost + Fixed cost

After this only save the baseline. Later on you assign the actual cost to
the activities while tracking the schedule.

I hope it helps.

Hi Jolene,

1. Create your schedule
2. Create resources with cost rates.
3. Assign resources to tasks.
4. Baseline the plan through Tools > Tracking, Set Baseline.
5. Set the status date through Project > Project Information.
6. Track data through the status date.

It sounds as though you may not have actually saved the baseline as
you note that you "entered" the baseline duration.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Adding to my firend's posts... If your actual costs arrive separately (such
as from a cost accounting system), you will need to enter them manually.

To do that, you have to set MS Project to allow you to enter the actuals.
You do this from Tools/Options/Calculations tab. Make sure the checkboxes
there are to your liking.

You can use the Help on that tab for a further explanation of what each
check box will do for you.
