play a sound when new message arrives

Paul Cunningham

I am running Outlook 2003 via a Windows 2003 Terminal Server. Simply, I need
to know if I can get my outlook client to alert me with a sound when a new
mail arrives. I know this works in a Fat-Client environment but will it work
through my Terminal Services session?
Regards
Paul

Hi Paul,
have you permission to the following option?
tools | options | other | advances options | reminder Options?

Apparently not. Well, at least I haven't been able to do it - yet.
If someone can help us out here, it would be appreciated.

I can't get any Outlook sound notifications to work under TS 2003.

Have you enable sound in terminal services? it is not on
by default.

Most engineers have this capability turned off due to
network bandwidth. If memory serves, sound can also be
turned off for terminal services from a GPO.

Are sounds configured in the TS? If you have them enabled in the TS
connection, new mail sounds should work.

Sounds work in TS.. just not that option in Outlook while in TS.

Anyhow, I found a workaround..

If I create a rule that states any mail sent to me in the To: and CC:
fields will prompt a sound when it arrives. This now works in TS with
no problem.

That's good enough for me - still don't know why the "Play a sound"
option doesn't work though.
