Hi there

I have an off-the shelf training package that has been developed with PCs in mind, but it is basically a simple set of microsoft powerpoint files that are linked together and rely heavily upon animations, using macromedia flash player technology.

As part of the install process (which basically copies across the presentation files to the hard drive, using html pages as an interface, and nothing much more as I can tell) there is a little window which is designed to show if the animations will work - and they do.

However, despite having the most recent version of powerpoint installed on my mac, the animations do not work when I run the file as a slideshow in powerpoint. Is there anything I can do apart from go to boot camp, buy another copy of powerpoint (for windows) and run my mac as a PC for this purpose?

Many thanks in advance

Not sure if that's the only way, but before doing it, I'd make certain
that it'll work. Changes to recent versions of the Flash player have made
it impossible for Office 2007/Windows to embed Flash files, so it might
not work under Office 2007 either.

thanks Steve - is this something I should pass back on to the provider of the presentation - as their minimum spec requires windows XP, Office XP and flashplayers v7 to 9?

And if I'm getting you right, when I do do the bootcamp thing, I need to make sure my version of windows, powerpoint and flash player are not the most recent ones?

cheers

My understanding of it, and this is something you'd probably want to test pretty well,
is that PPT 2007 and the latest version of Flash player (9, isn't it) don't get along;
the combination won't let you embed flash into your PowerPoint files.

I think if you stick with an older version of Flash and PPT, it should be ok.

Hi,

I'd head to http://www.mediconverter.org/ and convert the flash files to
something useful like WMV or MOV format.

MOV is fine for Macs, but Windows PowerPoint will choke on it.

WMV is fine for Macs and PCs, but you'll need to install Flip4Mac codecs
for QuickTime (free) to play WMV on the Mac.
