i'm no technician, so i can only speak from my own
exerience. when you insert an mpeg into powerpoint, it
actually builds some sort of link to the mpeg file. so
that mpeg file needs to be on your hard drive where
powerpoint can find it to play. otherwise, if you try to
show your presentation later, and you are not hooked up to
the network or haven't inserted the disk with the movie,
powerpoint can't find it.
once you place the mpeg on your hard drive, don't move it
to another folder, or you will have to re-insert the movie
into your presentation.
maybe this will help.

using media player - so at least I know the mpeg is
playable on my PC.
