When I read an email in Outlook, usually using Preview mode, I would like
there to be two nice little options available at the side of the window that
would allow the following options;
Keep for:
1 Day
1 Weekday
1 Week
1 Month
Until __/__/____
and
Before autodeleting:
Prompt
Do not prompt
Each option would default to the 'normal' level, set either by the user or
by Group Policy, but could be changed by the user.
In practice, items would not necessarily be deleted exactly 24 hours after
they expire... they would go to a 'Auto-Deleted Items' folder and would be
kept for a variable period unless the space is needed for new emails.
I get a lot of emails that I know that I will only need to keep for a few
days, but that I end up never getting around to deleting and this would help
prevent that sort of mailbox bloat.
Another change; items in the deleted folder, the Junk folder or the
auto-deleted folder would be deleted from the server if needed to allow
emails to be sent or recieved if there is a group policy on maximum mailbox
size.
