Whenever a user switches between an Access XP application and and Access 2003
application, the MSI configuration window pops up (one of the following,
depending on which was launched second).
- Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office XP Professional with
FrontPage
- Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office Professional Edition
2003
This started happening after installing a certain set of service packs or
hot fixes (I'm not sure exactly which updates caused this). It affects those
users who were diligent in applying Office updates regularly. Anyone who
found out about this problem before applying the offending update refuse to
apply any further updates to Office due to the extreme inconvenience it
causes.
The delay caused by the installer configuration causes several other
applications (ones that automate Access) to hang, timeout, and report errors.
Users must wait for the configuration to complete and attempt their operation
again.
The environments that are having this problem have Access 2003 Retail and
either Access XP Retail or Access XP Runtime. All service packs and hot fixes
have been applied using the Check for Updates link at office.microsoft.com.
If anyone can find a resolution to this issue, I would greatly appreciate it.
