PLEASE GOD HELP...with installing Office XP

R

ronald

I just bought my copy of Office XP for students and
teachers. I went home, loaded the cd and waited, after 2
minutes I got a message stating the following:

"The windows installer service could not be accessed.
This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode,
or if the windows installer is not correctly installed.
Contact your support personnel for further assistance"

I know my computer is not in safe mode, and to re-install
Windows XP home edition is going to be a real problem as
I have a years worth of files and info gathered onto my
machine, all backed up. I didnt know there were different
ways to install windows, the software did everything by
itself in any case. I am in the middle of writing a
thesis and need this software to work.

If anyone has any suggestions pls let me know, it will be
very much appreciated.

Try reinstalling Windows Installer... there may be a
utility somewhere to completely remove it, as
uninstalling it doesn't completely remove it. When you
have windows installer completely removed, it will
install automatically when installing Office again.

Go to start and run and type "msiexec /unreg" (with no
quotes) then click ok.
next go to start and run and type "msiexec /regserver"
and click ok.
Now try and install office.
