Please help - graphics in Word to Web pages

Dazed

Hi
I am saving Word documents as Web Pages and the graphics keep disappearing!
Often I can see them in Web Page Preview then when close the document the
graphics disappear. It is killing me as I have to re-insert the pic then save
the page over and over until finally for some reason it just saves.

I'm using Word 2002 and have tried inserting as various .extns and just
doing cut and paste without saving the pic separately. Has anyone any ideas?
Please?!

I did it a different way.

I used a convertor from PDF-Convert Inc (they're not the only ones out
there) to convert my Word graphics pages to JPEGs. That is only the first
step as the JPEG you get is high resolution and thus very large. I then used
the Save for WEB facility in photoshop to reduce the file sizes. For what I
wanted it was OK (See www.drawingwithword.com and take a look at some of the
art gallery stuff ot the "How to build an Air Hockey table" document.

Hope this helps

Thanks, Keith. Your web site is lovely. Unfortunately I don't think I can
convert to pdf. I need to update the pics (they are screen shots) fairly
often. I'll just bumble along a bit more!

Hi Dazed,

How are you inserting the graphics and what are the steps you are using for saving as a web pages and to where? The graphics in
HTML files are usually saved as separate items in a sub folder of the document that includes the document name. If you move the
document then you need to move that folder & contents as well.

Hi Bob,

Well, I think I solved this problem (accidentally!) and it is pretty obscure
so maybe it will not ever affect anyone else but here goes: In the
Options-General tab I went to Web Options and deselected the Organise
Supporting Files in a Folder checkbox. This is because I originally needed to
send the files to a Unix box and I understood that Unix could not "accept"
folders (I'm not too techy so this is what I think the reason is). As it
turns out - very very happily for me, I can now send all the pages I need via
a Windows doo-dah and I can use folders. The problems seems to have magically
disappeared and I can't tell you how HAPPY I am about it!! So I think that if
ever any other poor bugger tries to save Word to web pages without having pic
files in a separate folder they might also have a sad time if they need to
re-edit them.

Signing off, one happy Dazed.
