Please help me recover deleted email in Outlook 2007 using IMAP ac

I am working in Outlook 2007 and use a gmail account. When I configured my
gmail account to Outlook 2007 I did so by choosing the IMAP rather than the
POP setting. Most basic tasks go well except for recovering/finding deleted
items.

Typically, when I'm done reading an email, I'll delete it using the delete
button while in the email or I'll delete it from the inbox by pressing on my
Delete key. Once I do that, the email is permanently gone (you should know
that I'm typically connected live to the internet when
reviewing/reading/deleting email--meaning I'm not working in Outlook
offline). It does not go to a trash or delete folder where I can then choose
to manually empty the folder. I do not or cannot find a 'recover deleted
email' option in Outlook 2007.

It seems most folks want their email to go away permanently but I'm one of
those folks who sometimes finds a need to refer back to a deleted email. I
need information on recovering deleted emails in Outlook 2007 with my IMAP
settings.

Is there a solution?

yes - don't delete! (DUH!)
My Gmail now has SIX GIGABYTES of storage! Surely that's enough for anyone?

That's not the solution I'm looking for.) Obviously that's a work
around but I don't like seeing thousands of emai in my Inbox. I like to read
it/file it/delete it.

Please, someone let me know if there's a solution. One that doesn't involve
me creating a new folder called Trash. I already have 3 trash folders: in my
gmail, in my Archive folders and in my Personal folders. The ideal would be
to simply hit delete and have the email go directly to the delete folder
rather than having to manually move it to a folder as I do with email I want
to keep.

thx

TRIED LOOKING at your Outlook functions?

Yes Gordon, I have tried and keep trying and will continue to try to find the
information I'm looking for. Thank you for your suggestion on view/unread
email.

And if you have outlook 2007, (and, I think Outlook 2003), you can add
Unread Mail folder to your favorites folder.....

IMAP protocols simply don't have a Deleted Items folder. Most IMAP servers
will simply mark a message for later deletion when you click Delete,
signalling that by displaying the message in the folder with an overstrike
through the subject. You can then get it back by clicking Edit>Undo Delete
or by right-clicking the message and choosing Undelete. Make sure your IMAP
view is set to "IMAP Messages" and not "Hide Messages Marked for Deletion".
If gmail isn't honoring IMAP protocols properly, there's little you can do
about it. I'd test this all myself, but I can't access my gmail account at
this time.
