PLEASE HELP ME with page numbering

K

my page numbers are not showing in my document and I am at the end of my
rope. I am using MS word 2007 and Vista - I am able to go through all the
menus for header, footer, format page numbers, etc. but then no final product
shows up.

The help desk at my school is clueless and offered no help whatsoever.

I have spent HOURS trying to insert these page numbers today. I have been
all over the web, all sorts of techie websites....I did see some mention of
problems with the Beta version of 2007 but I am using a full purchased
version of MS 2007 professional home/student. I tried a fix that was
mentioned in a posting I found but it required getting to a "documents and
settings" directory that I cannot find.

my whole master's thesis is riding on me being able to do this...NOT GOOD

thanks anyway. You'd think as bad as the microsoft support is. (I'm not
impressed...it is like a maze)...at least these groups would direct me to the
correct people. I give up. I'll just save it in word 2003 format and produce
it from another computer. what a pain.
I just don't have time to try to find another group to post to and wait
awhile for a response.

Hello Kim,

These notes are for a Mac version of Word, and I don't know whether they
will apply in Word 2007 -- but it won't take you long to find out. I'm
enclosing them because you're so desperate -- I feel for you!

PAGE NUMBERS IN HEADERS AND FOOTERS
[Page numbers can be applied without using headers or footers (via Insert
menu » Page Numbers) ‹ a text box is inserted instead. However,
incorporating page numbering as part of the header or footer, as shown
below, makes it much easier to control the formatting via styles, since this
method inserts a normal page number field (the appearance of which can be
changed globally via styles) rather than a text box (which can¹t be changed
via styles).]

To apply page numbers to headers or footers, choose View menu » Header and
footer » type up the header or footer and add the page number via the ³#²
button on the toolbar that appears.

TO CONTINUE PAGE NUMBERING SHOWN IN THE HEADER OR FOOTER, OR TO RE-START AT
1
In Print Layout view, click in the section in which you want the numbering
to apply or change, then double-click on the header or footer (or View menu
» Header and Footer) to open the small Header and Footer toolbar. On this
small toolbar, click on the ³Format page number² button (the right-hand one
of the three page-number buttons):

Then click ³Continue from previous section² radio button or specify the page
number to start at » OK. This is the window in which you can also specify
whether the page number is shown as ³i² or ³1² and so on.

Cheers,

it's worth a try! in the meantime I may have figured out a "workaround" to
allow me to do what I need to do....but it certainly is a roundabout method!
thanks for the help though. :) God bless you!

Sorry, you¹ve landed in a MacWord group (not your fault, one of the web
interfaces is *very* badly designed). You might get an answer from the
people here who use both Windows and Mac, but you should try asking your
question on the general Word newsgroups. Start here:
