Please Help -My XP WUpdate Hangs Endlessly!!!

Have a new xp pro OS - fully updated prior to MS anouncing the "ani-Mydoom
update"
Now my IE hangs endlessly on the MS UpdatePage:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

Checking for the latest version of the Windows Update
software...

Clue? - I did have "ZeroSpyware" installed. Uninstalling that did not help.
I DESPERATELY NEED TO UPDATE!!
Can anyone help?
I tried reinstalling IE but it looks for a file it can't
find."C:\WINDOWS\Inf\i386"

Suggest you try a Windows XP group - this is for Access, the database
component of Microsoft Office.
