Please Help: Outlook Indexing -- Progress in the WRONG direction

I posted this information earlier in response to other questions, but a
solution has not been proposed, so I am posting this as a NEW problem.
I was a beta2 user, and uninstalled the beta and installed the Trial. Under
the beta, the Outlook indexed and instant search worked. Under the Trial,
Outlook indexed, and for the briefest period, instant search worked. The next
day I rec'v the message that my search results might not be complete because
indexing was not complete. I check, and there were a couple of hundred emails
yet to index. How strange.
I decided to force reindexing, and that also worked for a day. The dreaded
caution returned, and again, it reported that there were still a couple
hundred emails yet to index. How odd. The following day, there were maybe 400
items yet to be indexed, then 600. The number has continued to grow with each
passing day. At some point last weekend, the number exceeded 10,000. I
checked a little while ago and there are now 19203 items remaining in
personal folders and 23447 items remaining across all open mailboxes; --both
are more than the messages on my system.
I ran diagnostics, and did some bulk email deletion, --also turned on
auto-archive.
