Please help....Visio error

I have been working on a very large network diagram that is over 30mb in
size. I had been using Visio 2000 and decided to upgrade to 2003. Big
mistake. The first time I opened the 2000 drawing with 2003 it seemed to
work fine, when I saved it I chose to save in "2003" format. Next time I
opened it I can't click on anything. I get an error "An error (1415) has
occured during the action Open Object. Visio is unable to edit the Visio
object."
I did some searching and quickly found this was an Microsoft issue (big
surprise). They said open it with the earlier version of Visio, save it as a
..vsd file, then reopen it within 2003. Well, how am I suppose to open a 2003
file with Visio 2000? So I saved the document as a 2002 file, installed
Visio 2000 on another machine, opened the 2002 format file, saved it as a
..vsd file. Opened that with 2003, same error. I have tried saving the file
as a 2002 file, I have even installed Visio 2002 on another machine and
nothing is working. I'm very frustrated with MS and wonder why I upgraded at
all. This is a huge drawing and recreating it is just not an option. Right
now I want to grab someone at Microsoft by the throat. Can anyone offer any
other ideas of how I can get it so I can click on the objects again?

TRY #1 are there macros associated with the drawing? if so , adjust the
security level so that the macros are disabled.
is this drawing linked to a database? i have encountered shape
incompatablities between 2000 and 2003 with the Z ordering.

nope, no macros and it's not linked to any database. There is nothing
unusual about it other than its size (32MB).

tough predicament, if you are at the end of your tether, I would try the
following.
open visio 2003 program then create new document named "network#2", then try
open the original in the same window, then try copy page 1 of original
corrupted document to page-1 of network#2. Try first by manual process. or
try by writing a macro to do it. The aim here is to induce the shapes one by
one /page by page from the corrupt document onto the new document. if the
visio program freezes ALL actions (both on the page and on the toolbars)the
moment the corrupted file opens.. this will be a big hurdle
