Hi Community,

Okay, I am hardly a computer whiz, but I have been having a lot of
problems recently with my brand new laptop and the trial version of MSOffice
2007 (student/home version), I am having one hell of a time getting the trial
to work period. I used a disc to download MSOffice 2003 into my laptop with
Vista, and it worked for a week; after a week when it wouldn't work, I went
to the support site and it said that it wasn't compatible with Vista, and to
download the trial of 2007, which I cannot get to work properly. The MSWord
won't load at all, it loads half of the age, then if you click anywhere the
other half loads, but it is all baby blue, and says "not responding" at the
top, and it bever kicks on! The other programs load, but I cannot connect
online to activate, and the activate by telephone option is dimmed. Yes, I
have an internet connection to everything else but that!!I tried repairing
it, erasing some liscensing code file that the support site told me to, and
uninstalling and reinstalling, all to no avail! After all that I have the
same two exact problems!I am a astudent and am lost w/out the MSWord/Power
Point. I have to finish my presentation/paper by tomorrow and have no
programs to do it!!! PLEASE HELP!! Thanks, (e-mail address removed) aka Angelina

Hi, TrinityLynne,

Office 2003 is compatible with Windows Vista.

Which version of Office (not a trial) do you actually own?

Hi Susan,

Thank you for your reply! The only version of MSOffice I won is the one
that came on my Dell Desktop. It is MSWord 2000 (I believe, it is the one
before MSOffice 2003). It did not come with anything but Word, and Micrsoft
Works. So, I downloaded and used the trial on my desktop (of MSOffice 2003
that is), and loved it. So, when I bought my new laptop, which originally had
XP, it came with a trial version of MSOffice 2003. However the brand new
laptop completely crashed, and when I returned it, they gave me a brand new
one with Vista on it for the same price, because they felt so bad, since I
lost a months worth of school work and pictures. So, I still had the trial
disc for MSOffice 2003, and loaded it into the new laptop with Vista, and it
worked fine for about a week. Then the computer said it was having problems
with recently installed software, not related to Windows, because t ran in
safe mode and said it it was able to do so, then it was not a OS problem, and
to try opening my programsone by one to see what the problem was. I figured I
would do this when I had a chance, but a few days later, I couldn't use my
MSOffice 2003's Word. I couldn't open previously saved files, nor open new
ones that were emailied from my Teacher when he sent me my syllabus for my
new class. It occured to me that it was probably MSOffice 2003 that was
conflicting with the computer. I unistalled it, and the computer has been
great. However, when I went to download the new trial of MSOffice 2007, so I
could have Word/Power Point back until I could afford to buy a version, I
have been unable to get it to work. I am having two seperate problems, as I
mentioned previously, Word will not load (just says "Not Responding") and the
other programs like Power Point, won't activate (they say they cannot connect
to the internet and to try again in a few minutes, and yes my internet
connection is fine). Again I tried it all from th ehlp site for MSOffice 2007
to no avail, and unistalled and reinstalled and am havng the same exact two
problems! Any ideas? Do you or anyone else think I should try to reinstall my
trial of MSOffice 2003 again instead? Thanks Guys! TrinityLynne

Here's what I'd try:

1. Locate your CD for Works and Word from Dell, if they sent one, as well as
the product ID. If they didn't, contact them to find out how to re-install.

2. Run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove registry references
to all Office versions:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us

3. Try re-installing one of the trials.

If that doesn't work, you may need to contact Microsoft for support, but
trial versions are generally unsupported, so you may need to commit to
purchasing the software. You can uninstall the trials (or run the cleanup
utility again) and re-install the copy you own, provided you have the CD and
product code.

You might also find an older version (Office XP) legally on eBay or
somewhere for less than Office 2003 or Office 2007.

Good luck--
