Please help with missing .dll file fix

R

When I try to open my Word (or any other other Office app)
I get an error message that my mso97.dll file is can't be
located. I researched a reasonable sounding fix for
Windows 2000+ but I have Windows 98. I don't want to mess
everything worse in my attempt to fix this problem, but I
also need my Office programs back. Can anyone help?

Installing an incorrect version of mso97.dll can cause more problems.

What patches do you have installed for Office 97? IIRC all of the
Office 97 patches included an updated mso97.dll so if you don't have
all of the patches that's the first thing I'd recommend.

Here is some info on how to obtain the updates:

SR1: http://office.microsoft.com/Downloads/9798/sr1off97detail.aspx
SR2: http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/9798/sr2off97detail.aspx
Post Service Release (QFE 8909):

Otherwise reinstalling Office 97 should replace any missing files.
